1. Who we are
This policy explains how the Storage Cleaner app for iPhone and iPad ("Storage Cleaner", "the app", "we") handles information. By using the app you agree to this policy.
2. Your photos and videos
To find duplicates, similar shots, blurry photos, screenshots and large videos, to compress videos and images, to turn Live Photos into still photos, and to let you review your library in Swipe, Storage Cleaner needs access to your photo library. With your permission, the app reads your library entirely on your device:
- Photos, videos and anything derived from them, such as image fingerprints, file sizes or scan results, never leave your device.
- We cannot see, copy or receive your photos, videos or their contents.
- Scans only use what is already stored on your device. If you use iCloud Photos with "Optimize iPhone Storage", the app works with the small previews your device keeps and never downloads originals from iCloud during a scan, so scanning uses no mobile data.
- To open quickly and to speed up later scans, the app keeps on your device a small analysis cache, the results of your last scan, the choices you make in Swipe, and a history of how much space you have freed (shown in Insights). You can clear the analysis cache at any time in Settings ▸ Clear analysis cache. All of it is removed when you delete the app.
When you delete or compress items, the originals move to Photos ▸ Recently Deleted, where you can restore them for up to 30 days. Nothing is erased without going through Apple's own Photos app and its confirmation.
3. Contacts, calendars and reminders
If you choose to use the Contacts or Calendar clean-up, the app asks for access to your contacts, calendars or reminders. They are analyzed only on your device to find duplicate, incomplete, old or empty entries, and are never uploaded to us.
- Merges and deletions are made in your device's own Contacts, Calendar and Reminders data. If those are synced with an account, such as iCloud, the change syncs to your other devices through that account, as it would if you made it yourself.
- Before changing anything, the app saves a backup on your device: contacts as a .vcf file and events or reminders as an .ics file, in the app's folder in the Files app (On My iPhone or On My iPad ▸ Storage Cleaner). You can restore, share or delete these backups at any time. They are removed when you delete the app.
4. Files and folders
The Folders feature only looks at folders you choose in Apple's file picker. The app reads their file names, sizes and dates on your device to find large, old and duplicate files, and keeps a reference to the folders you picked so it can scan them again. It cannot open any other folder. When you delete files, they move to the Recently Deleted folder of the Files app where the storage location supports it; otherwise they are removed permanently.
5. Private Vault
- Encrypted on your device. Photos, videos, files and secure notes you add to a vault are encrypted with AES-256 (AES-GCM) before they are stored. The encryption key is kept in your device's Keychain and never leaves the device.
- Passcodes. Each vault has its own passcode. The app stores only a salted hash of it in the Keychain, never the passcode itself.
- Face ID. If you turn on Face ID for your vault, recognition is done entirely by iOS. The app only receives a yes or no answer and never receives any biometric data.
- Camera and microphone. The app uses them only when you take a photo or video straight into your vault. What you capture is encrypted into the vault and is not saved to your photo library.
- Not backed up. Vault contents are excluded from iCloud and computer backups and stay on this device only. Because we never have your key or passcode, no one, including us, can open or recover a vault if you forget its passcode, reset it, delete the app or lose the device.
6. Widgets, Live Activities, Siri and notifications
- Widgets and Live Activities show figures such as free space and scan progress. This information is shared between the app and its widgets on your device only. Anything you place on the Lock Screen can be seen by anyone holding your device.
- Siri and Shortcuts actions run on your device through Apple's frameworks.
- Notifications, such as scan results, storage alerts, weekly reports and optional offer reminders, are created and scheduled on your device. They are never sent from our servers, and you can turn each one off in the app or in iOS Settings.
- Auto Scan checks your library in the background on your device, using the same on-device analysis as a normal scan.
7. Information we do not collect
Storage Cleaner does not collect, store, sell or share personal information. In particular, we do not collect:
- Your name, email address, phone number or Apple Account
- Your photos, videos, files, vault contents, or details about them
- Your contacts, calendars or reminders
- Your location or biometric data
- Advertising identifiers or device identifiers
- Usage analytics, crash analytics or behavioral data
The app contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking software, and it does not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
8. When the app uses the internet
Scanning, cleaning, compressing and the vault work without an internet connection, and scans never download photos from iCloud. The app only goes online for the following:
- Version check. When the app starts, it downloads a small configuration file from our server to check whether your version is still supported, so we can ask you to update if an important fix is released. This request contains no personal information and is not linked to you. Like any internet request, it reveals your device's IP address to the server that delivers it. We do not use IP addresses to identify, profile or track anyone, and our hosting provider may keep standard server logs only for security and reliability.
- Apple services. Subscription prices, purchases, restores and the App Store rating prompt are handled by Apple's own frameworks and servers under Apple's privacy policy.
9. Purchases and subscriptions
Storage Cleaner Pro subscriptions are bought and managed entirely through Apple. Apple processes your payment under its own privacy policy. We never receive your payment details, Apple Account details or billing address. The app only receives confirmation from Apple, on your device, that a subscription is active.
10. Children and all age ranges
Storage Cleaner is suitable for people of all ages, including children. Because the app collects no personal information from anyone, it collects none from children under 13, or under the equivalent minimum age in your country. Parents and guardians can use Apple's Screen Time and Ask to Buy features to manage access and purchases.
11. Permissions you control
The app asks for each permission only when you use the feature that needs it:
- Photos: scanning, cleaning and optimizing your library, and adding items to the vault
- Contacts: Contacts clean-up
- Calendars and Reminders: Calendar clean-up
- Camera and Microphone: taking photos and videos straight into the vault
- Face ID: unlocking your vault
- Notifications: scan results, storage alerts and reminders
- Background App Refresh: Auto Scan, widget updates and finishing a scan you leave running (on iOS 26, shown as a system progress notice). You can turn it off in Settings ▸ General ▸ Background App Refresh.
You can change or revoke any of them at any time in your device's Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Storage Cleaner (on iOS 17 and earlier, Settings ▸ Storage Cleaner). Without a permission, only the feature that needs it stops working.
12. Security
Everything the app keeps is stored inside its own protected space on your device, using iOS data protection. Vault contents are additionally encrypted as described above. Because nothing is sent to us, there is no copy of your data on our side that could be exposed.
13. Your rights
Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. Rights you may have under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA are respected by design. Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device, including scan results, backups in its Files folder, and the contents of every vault.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how your information is handled, we will explain it in the app's update notes.
